Don't know, Ferne, but certainly won't be paying by cheque!! Club kept it for 4 months then cashed it when I had forgotton about it. Second time this has happened. NOT AMUSED!!! Some of us have to budget in order to afford horses. We don't all have megabucks in the bank to cover the random cashing of cheques when someone GETS AROUND TO IT!!!!!!!
By the way, did you sell your coloured pony?

yeah theyve done that to my mum! Cashed a few of her cheques at the same time after like months lol so its cash from now on! lol yeah beano sold to first person who came to see him:( took him then and there, so was a nice quick sale! was riding the new horse towards the end of having beano so wasnt to upset:)

Surely when you pay something by cheque you should take it as having been spent from your account??? It's going to come out at some point?

You should keep a running balance on the sheet they put in the back of the book. Just because someone is slow cashing a cheque doesn't mean it wont be cashed. Much cheaper than the costs if the bank then bounces the cheque!

Thanks to those of you who felt financial advice was required. It is appreciated, but, although a cheque is legally valid for 6 years, it is common banking practice to reject cheques that are over 6 months old to protect the payer, on the basis that payment may already have been made by some other means or the cheque may have been lost or stolen. Not a problem in this instance, as it was only retained for 4 months, but, perhaps erring on the wrong side of caution which would untimately cause everyone concerned more hassle and extra administration!
Perhaps the club would consider providing bank details, allowing members to make BACS payments directly into the account - a common practice in this day and age, I believe!! Thus, greatly assisting those such as myself who apparently have lousy financial management skills!!!!!
